2-Step Email Authentication
“Two-Step-Authentication” is one of the best ways to prevent unauthorized access to your email account because it requires you to take a “second step” in addition to inputting your username and password. This “second step” typically is a text message to your cell phone which provides you with a “verification code” that will need to be entered along with your user name and password before you can access your account. Another less popular way allows you to be contacted by phone to obtain the “verification code”. So, even if a criminal manages to steal your user name and password, without the “second step”, they will be prevented from accessing your account.
Once activated, Two-Step will require the “second step” any time anyone attempts to access your email from an “unrecognized” computer. Your everyday home or work computer can be set up to only require the “second step” every 30 days. Mobile devices, such as cell phones and tablets, only need to be “verified” once.
